VW China Reveals Flying Tiger

On July 27, Volkswagen Group China unveiled its first eVTOL prototype aircraft, the V.MO Prototype 001. Named after the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Tiger, the VW Flying Tiger features eight electric motors and propellers located on two booms that run parallel between two tandem high wings. Two additional propellers are in the rear of the aircraft for forward and reverse flight. The Flying Tiger will carry four passengers at an estimated range of 200 km (124 miles), according to the VFS World eVTOL Aircraft Directory. Initial flight tests are expected to begin later this year, with more in-depth testing taking place in 2023. The aircraft was designed by Volkswagen China in collaboration with tangerine, a UK-based design firm, and China’s Sunward.
